Semester 1 Review

WORK REVIEW:
- over all this semester has been vary varied, my design work has been very inconsistent and whilst having to start over with new approaches many times was very educational it did not lead to getting any fully developed schemes at any point.
This however maybe a reflection of my attitude to changes in approach, i felt it would not be a good use of time to develop these initial approaches any further than basics so that i would not have to back track to much when i started over. Hindsight suggests that if i had developed these more so then a new approach may not have been needed.
This has left the current design work from this semester in a highly unfinished state. redesigning the whole scheme a week prior to the final crit meant the project had very little substance. this also means this project will now require finishing over the next semester,

Technology work- as a research project this seemed to go fairly well, even though in comparison to all the other buildings there seemed extremely little information available on the structural and construction details but input from Keith meant that was able to create a rational theory for them, which helped greatly in developing research skills.

Skills Assessment
- Drawing - general sketching has not been greatly improved
- more technical drawings have great improvement in quality, accuracy and speed.
- do any important drawings at least 3 times,

- Handwriting - still poor, effort has not been made to improve it.

- Computer skills -side lined early to focus on physical models and drawings. semester 2 will aim to improve these.

- Reading - A lot has been done for dissertation and technology work. Great at speed reading and able to make detail notes of relevant sections. maybe read slower so more is immediately committed to memory

- Research - greatly improved in speed and efficiency now able to quickly combine internet and library resources to find relevant and variable info.

- Time keeping - i have been making timetables but often i fall behind and then dont stick to them.

- Modeling greatly improved, i have learnt to use a wider variety of materials in combination and have been able to apply them to appropriate scales aswell as produce the models more quickly and efficiently.

PDP review- whilst keeping the pdp as a blog is proving convenient for the most part, easy access, fairly to update, easy to link pictures. Typing up notes has been a problem. this however maybe due to my lack of organisation when it comes to storing my notes before typing them up. in future, i should type them up sooner or scan them all in.
