THURSDAY INSIDE OUT LECTURE:
Rod Heyes

'All of this has happened before' - BSG quote: proof that all architects are geeks?

* the everyday advertising/branding is unavoidable and will no doubt take away from your efforts, but they aren't permanent.
-> Nottingham contemporary - Gallery
-Seldom moments to create dialogue between interior and the city outside.
- geometry adapted to site constraints to describe the relationship.
- ceiling expresses site relationship.
*Too many ideas!!
'writing the fictions for your architecture' <- make up the context but make it convincing,
Prisca Thielmann
Maccreanor Lavington Architects
Rainham Library and mix use, Essex
-> main site constraints
- grain considerations
- English heritage don't like the imaginary history.
Accordia, Cambridge
- housing estate adjacent to English heritage home
Overview: Lecture was fairly interesting, mainly concerning the fictions that we create to justify our architecture.
Heyes was much more convincing speaker, seemed either better prepared or i was just more interested in what he was saying and the architecture seemed more interesting Thielmann's presentation was fairly unconvincing seemed to convey that the architecture they create is more like picking elements from a catalog and sticking them together to form a building, the only part of the architecture she was excited about was a string of glazed brick that they had been allowed.
